Good luck with your surgery, Katie, and good luck deconstructing these illness beliefs. I love what you said about finding a purpose for our illnesses as grief avoidance. We are allowed to grieve, whether we find meaning in our experiences--or not. In fact, if there is meaning, it can only be found after we've grieved, or in the case of something chronic, as we continue to grief.
